Myers Park Mustangs WRs: Master the 'Quick Release' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Myers Park MustangsยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Myers Park Mustangs prepare for the upcoming 4A season, wide receivers can benefit from a drill that targets their release off the line of scrimmage. The 'Quick Release' drill involves setting up three cones in a triangular formation, with the receiver starting at the point of the triangle. The coach or trainer will call out a color, and the receiver must quickly release to the corresponding cone, focusing on exploding off the line and maintaining a low pad level. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 20 seconds of rest between sets. As the receiver improves, add a defender to simulate game scenarios. This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to separate from defenders and get open quickly.
