Chambers Cougars OL Drills: 'Plyometric Punch' for Power and Speed
As the Chambers Cougars prepare for the upcoming 4A season, their offensive line coaches are focusing on building explosive power and speed through a plyometric-based drill called 'Plyometric Punch'.
The drill involves OL players starting in a three-point stance, then explosively punching the ground with their hands and immediately jumping up to a quarter squat position. They'll repeat this motion for 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets.
Coaching cues include: 'Explode, don't lift', 'Keep your core tight', and 'Drive through your heels'. This drill translates to game performance by improving the OL's ability to quickly generate power and speed off the line, allowing them to effectively block and clear space for the running back.
