Lock and Mirror: A CB Drill for 3A Programs
The Lock and Mirror drill is a valuable exercise for cornerbacks at 3A programs like Weddington Warriors. This drill focuses on footwork, agility, and mirroring the opponent's movements. To run the drill, set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards behind the second cone. The cornerback starts at the first cone, then locks onto a coach or teammate at the second cone. The coach or teammate mirrors the cornerback's movements, changing direction and speed. The cornerback must stay locked onto the coach or teammate, using proper footwork and agility to stay in phase. Perform 3 sets of 3 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the cornerback's ability to stay in phase with the receiver and react to changing situations.
