Quarterback Quick Release Drill for Weddington Warriors and 3A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Weddington WarriorsยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Weddington Warriors prepare for the upcoming 3A football season, quarterback coach, John Smith, emphasizes the importance of a quick release in the pocket. To improve this skill, Smith recommends the following drill: 'Quick Release to Target.' Divide the quarterbacks into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the passer. The receiver will stand 10 yards downfield, while the passer will start 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. On the coach's signal, the passer must release the ball within 2 seconds, focusing on a specific target (e.g., the receiver's numbers). The receiver will then catch the ball and record the time it takes for the passer to release the ball. Aim for 2 seconds or less. This drill translates to game performance by allowing quarterbacks to quickly identify and react to defensive pressure, resulting in more accurate passes and reduced sacks.
