FridayNightPulse: Chambers Cougars DE Drill for 4A Success
As the 2026 season approaches, 4A programs like the Chambers Cougars are refining their defensive line techniques. For defensive ends, a key drill to improve speed, agility, and power is the 'Rip and React' exercise. Set up a series of cones in a zigzag pattern, 5 yards apart, with a defender at the starting point. On the whistle, the defender sprints to the first cone, then quickly changes direction (ripping) to the second cone. After completing the zigzag, the defender reacts to a mock quarterback drop, using the gained speed and agility to close the distance. Coaches should emphasize explosive acceleration and quick decision-making. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, 3 times a week, to translate this drill to game performance and outmaneuver opponents on the edge.
