Building a Stronger Weddington Warriors O-Line: The 'Anchor' Drill
As the Weddington Warriors prepare for the upcoming 3A season, one of the key areas of focus is building a dominant offensive line. To achieve this, Coach Thompson has developed a drill that targets the linemen's ability to anchor and control their opponent. The 'Anchor' drill involves the following steps: (1) Start in a 3-point stance, with feet shoulder-width apart and hands on the ground. (2) As the coach applies pressure to the chest, players must maintain a strong base and resist the push. (3) Hold for 3-5 seconds, then release. (4) Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cue: 'Sink your hips, not your chest.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the linemen's ability to absorb contact and maintain their position, allowing for more effective blocking and protection for the quarterback.
