Speed and Agility for S Players: The Fargo Shanley Deacons' 5-10-5 Shuttle Drill
At Fargo Shanley Deacons, our S players are working on their speed and agility through the 5-10-5 shuttle drill. This drill is designed to improve their ability to quickly change direction and accelerate down the field. To set up the drill, players will start at the 5-yard line, sprint to the 10-yard line, then backpedal to the 5-yard line, and finally sprint back to the starting point. We're aiming for 3 sets of 5 reps with a 30-second rest in between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive start' and 'quick feet' as players transition from sprinting to backpedaling. This drill translates to game performance by allowing our S players to quickly close gaps and cover receivers in man-to-man coverage. It also helps them to stay in front of the ball carrier in zone coverage.
