Defensive Backs: 'Shadow' Drill for AA Programs
As the summer heat sets in, AA programs like Mandan Braves are gearing up for the upcoming season. Cornerbacks (CBs) are a crucial part of any team's defense, and a key component of their success is their ability to stay with receivers in coverage. To improve this skill, we're introducing the 'Shadow' drill. This drill targets the CB's ability to mirror receivers in a game-like setting, while also improving their reaction time and agility. To run the drill, set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a defender and receiver starting at each cone. The defender must stay within 2 yards of the receiver, mirroring their every move. Run 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cue: 'Stay sticky, stay tight.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing CBs to develop their ability to stay with receivers in coverage, even in tight spaces. It also improves their reaction time, allowing them to stay one step ahead of the competition.
