Route Running Precision Drill for Wide Receivers

๐Ÿ“ Mandan BravesยทWednesday, July 22, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At AA programs like Mandan Braves, wide receivers need to be precise and efficient in their route running to create separation from defenders. The 'High-Low-Quick' drill targets this skill. Divide the receivers into groups and set up three cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Start with the receivers at the first cone. On the coach's signal, they sprint to the second cone, then immediately drop to a 3-point stance and 'high' route to the third cone. After completing the high route, they quickly transition to a 'low' route back to the second cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Quick feet, quick hands'; 'High and low, high and low'; 'Separate, separate, separate.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the receivers' ability to create separation and read defenses, ultimately leading to more open opportunities and touchdowns.
