Shanley S Players Get Ready for Fall: The 'Speed Through Contact' Drill
At Fargo Shanley Deacons summer camp, receivers and defensive backs are putting in the work with a high-intensity drill designed to simulate game-like situations. The 'Speed Through Contact' drill involves setting up cones in a zig-zag pattern, with players starting at one end. On coach's signal, they sprint through the course, weaving around cones while maintaining top speed. After clearing the final cone, they immediately change direction to receive a pass or tackle an opponent. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'stay low,' 'keep your eyes up,' and 'explosive through the contact.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching S players to maintain speed and agility while navigating tight spaces and physical collisions.
