Spartan Running Backs: What Coaches Look for on Junior Day Visits

๐Ÿ“ Lincoln East SpartansยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As a top running back prospect at a program like Lincoln East Spartans, you're likely to receive invitations to junior day visits at top programs. But what do coaches look for during these visits? First, they want to see your speed and agility. Coaches will often set up drills that test your 40-yard dash time, such as the 'pro shuttle' where you have to change direction quickly. A good pro shuttle time is under 4.2 seconds. They'll also evaluate your pass-blocking skills, as many offenses now feature running backs who can protect the quarterback. Be prepared to demonstrate your ability to quickly recognize and react to a pass rush. Additionally, coaches will assess your football IQ and ability to read defenses. Show them your knowledge of the game and your ability to make adjustments on the fly.
