FridayNightPulse Training Tip: DE Dominance Drill
For defensive ends at top programs like Pinkerton Academy Astros, dominating at the point of attack is crucial. The DE Dominance Drill targets this skill, focusing on speed, strength, and technique. Set up a 10-yard line with two cones 5 yards apart, representing the tackle box. Players start 5 yards back, then sprint to the cones, exploding through the space with a 3-point stance. After reaching the cones, they immediately pivot and chase the coach or trainer, who is carrying a pad, simulating a quarterback. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 60 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'explosive, not slow' and 'stay low, stay mean.' This drill translates to game performance by improving speed and agility in tight spaces, as well as enhancing the ability to chase down and tackle elusive quarterbacks.
