Power Pull Drills for Non-Public A OL Players
At the top Non-Public A programs like Don Bosco Prep, linemen are constantly looking for ways to improve their strength and technique. One effective drill for OL players is the power pull. This drill targets the glutes and hamstrings, essential for explosive power in the run game. To set up the drill, pair OL players with a blocking sled or a partner. Have them start in a 3-point stance, then explosively pull the sled or partner 5-7 yards, focusing on quick footwork and hip drive. Rest for 30 seconds, then repeat for 3-4 sets. Coaching cues include 'drive through your heels' and 'pull with your hips.' This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to generate power and speed off the line, allowing them to clear blocks and create holes for the running back.
