Unlocking the Edge: A DE Drill for Non-Public A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Bergen Catholic CrusadersยทWednesday, July 15, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Bergen Catholic Crusaders and other top Non-Public A programs, defensive end players are constantly seeking ways to improve their speed, agility, and strength. One effective drill to help achieve these goals is the 'Reaction and Pursuit' drill. This drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between sets. Players will start in a 3-point stance, then react to a coach's whistle by quickly getting up and chasing a defender down the field. The key coaching cue is to emphasize 'quick feet, long strides' and to 'stay low and explosive.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a DE's ability to quickly close the gap and make tackles in pursuit of the ball carrier.
