Paladins' Pre-Season CB Drill: 'Shadow and React'

At Paramus Catholic High School, our Non-Public B program is gearing up for another competitive season. For cornerbacks, we're focusing on a key drill that will improve their ability to mirror receivers and react to the ball. 'Shadow and React' involves two players: a receiver and a cornerback. The receiver starts at the line of scrimmage, while the cornerback begins 5 yards off. The receiver runs a 5-yard out route, and the cornerback must mirror their movements, staying 1-2 steps behind. After 3-5 reps, the cornerback must react to a thrown ball, turning their head and planting their feet to track the ball. This drill translates to game performance by improving the cornerback's ability to stay with receivers and make plays on the ball.
