La Cueva Bears Name New Defensive Coordinator

๐Ÿ“ La Cueva BearsยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

La Cueva High School has promoted assistant coach Ryan Thompson to defensive coordinator, a move that comes after five seasons developing talent in the program. The Bears, a 6A school from Albuquerque, have been rebuilding since a 4-6 record in 2022. Thompson's elevation is expected to bring stability to the defense, which struggled to contain opponents last season. The move also sets the stage for a competitive recruiting battle for defensive linemen and linebackers, a key position group for the Bears. With Thompson at the helm, La Cueva is looking to improve its defensive performance and make a push for a state playoff berth. The Bears will host a summer football camp in August to attract top talent from around the state.
