FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip for 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Cibola CougarsยทFriday, July 17, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve blocking technique and footwork for tight ends at 6A programs like Cibola Cougars, try the 'Box Drill.' Divide the tight ends into pairs, with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. Set up a series of cones in a box formation, with each cone spaced 3 yards apart. The blocker must start in a 3-point stance and drive through the box, focusing on keeping their head up and hands inside. The defender must react quickly to the blocker's movement and try to get around them. Run 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'drive through the box' and 'keep your hands inside.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to block in tight spaces and react to defenders quickly, making them a more valuable asset to the team.
