FridayNightPulse Training Tip: LB Speed and Agility Drill for 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Cibola CougarsยทFriday, July 17, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This week's training tip focuses on a speed and agility drill tailored for Linebacker (LB) players at 6A programs like Cibola Cougars. The 'Ladder Weave' drill improves quick change of direction and reaction time, essential skills for LBs in game situations. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Divide the LBs into pairs and have them start at opposite ends of the ladder. On the whistle, each player must weave through the ladder, then immediately change direction and weave back through in the opposite direction. Perform 3 sets of 3 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet,' 'stay low,' and 'change direction quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing LBs to react faster to ball carriers and make quicker decisions on the field.
