Building a Stronger Cibola Cougar O-Line: The 'Anchor and Drive' Drill
This summer, Cibola Cougars' offensive linemen can take their game to the next level with the 'Anchor and Drive' drill. This exercise targets the linemen's ability to maintain a strong anchor point and generate power to drive their opponents off the line. To set up the drill, have the linemen pair up and stand with their feet shoulder-width apart, hands on the ground. On the coach's signal, they will explosively drive their feet into the ground, extending their arms and pushing against an imaginary defender. The coach should provide cues such as 'Drive your feet into the ground' and 'Extend your arms, push the defender back.' Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the linemen's ability to generate power and maintain a strong anchor point, allowing them to dominate in the trenches.
