FridayNightPulse Training Tip: WR Speed and Agility for Cleveland Storm
At 6A programs like Cleveland Storm, wide receivers need to be quick and agile to separate from defenders. To improve speed and agility, try this drill: "Shuttle Runs with Change of Direction." Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with another cone 5 yards beyond the second cone. Have WRs start at the first cone, then sprint to the second cone, planting their outside foot and quickly changing direction to sprint to the third cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: "Keep your eyes on the next cone, explode out of your plant, and stay low." This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts, making them harder to defend. It also enhances their ability to read coverage and make adjustments on the fly.
