Sprint and Shuffle Drill for 6A Secondary Players

๐Ÿ“ La Cueva BearsยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

La Cueva Bears secondary coach, Mark Thompson, has developed a drill to improve speed and agility in his players. The 'Sprint and Shuffle' drill involves 4-6 players lining up in two rows, with 3-4 yards between each player. The first player in each row starts in a 3-point stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart. On the whistle, they sprint 5 yards downfield, then immediately shuffle 2 yards to the side, before returning to the starting position. The player then repeats the process, moving to the next player in line. Coaches should focus on proper footwork and body positioning. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and ability to quickly change direction.
