Boost Your Kicker's Leg Strength with the 'Power Step' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Bishop Gorman GaelsยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 5A powerhouse Bishop Gorman Gaels, special teams coach Alex Johnson has developed a drill to improve his kickers' leg strength and accuracy. The 'Power Step' drill involves three sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Begin by having your kicker stand with their dominant foot forward, then step out with their non-dominant foot and push off the ground, keeping their knee bent at a 90-degree angle. As they step back, focus on exploding upward, extending their kicking leg and keeping their core engaged. Coaching cue: 'Step, push, explode!' This drill translates to game performance by building leg strength, improving balance, and enhancing overall kicking power.
