Bishop Gorman OLs Get Ready for the Gridiron with the 'Anchor' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Bishop Gorman GaelsยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Bishop Gorman's 5A football team is focusing on building a dominant line of scrimmage. One key drill to help OLs prepare is the 'Anchor' drill. Coaches will divide the OL into pairs, with one player as the 'anchorman' and the other as the 'defender.' The defender will attempt to rush the anchorman, who must keep their feet shoulder-width apart and their knees slightly bent. The anchorman will then explode upward, extending their arms and keeping their chest up. The defender will try to push through, but the anchorman's goal is to maintain their position. The drill will be performed for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between. This drill translates to game performance by teaching OLs to stay anchored in the face of pressure, allowing them to drive block and create holes for their RBs.
