CB Dominance: Bishop Gorman's 5-Step Reaction Drill
This summer, Bishop Gorman's top cornerbacks are sharpening their skills with a 5-step reaction drill designed to improve their quickness and anticipation. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Here's how it works: (1) Start in a 3-point stance, with feet shoulder-width apart. (2) On the whistle, explosively jump to a 45-degree angle, keeping hands up and eyes on the quarterback. (3) Immediately pivot 180 degrees, using inside foot to plant and outside foot to push off. (4) Repeat steps 2-3, focusing on rapid changes of direction. (5) Finish with a 5-yard sprint to the sideline, showcasing speed and agility. Coaching cues include 'react, react, react' and 'change direction, not speed.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching cornerbacks to quickly identify and respond to receiver routes, staying one step ahead of their opponents.
