Agile Footwork for CBs: The 'Ladder Lateral Shuffle' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Monroe Woodbury CrusadersยทWednesday, July 8, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top AA programs like Monroe Woodbury Crusaders, cornerbacks must be agile and quick to stay with receivers. To improve their footwork, we're introducing the 'Ladder Lateral Shuffle' drill. Set up 5-6 ladder rungs on the ground, spaced 3 feet apart. Have the CB start at one end of the ladder, then perform a lateral shuffle through each rung, focusing on quick foot placement and minimal wasted motion. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Keep your feet close to the ground,' 'Shuffle, don't slide,' and 'Stay low, stay quick.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the CB's ability to quickly change direction and stay in phase with receivers, making it a valuable addition to any summer camp or pre-season training regimen.
