Finishing the Play: A Defensive End Drill for AA Programs
As the summer heat intensifies, AA programs like Monroe Woodbury Crusaders are gearing up for a championship season. For defensive ends, it's essential to develop the skills to finish the play. Here's a drill to help them do just that. The 'Finish the Play' drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps. Players start in a 3-point stance, 5 yards off the line. On the coach's signal, they rush the quarterback, focusing on speed and agility. As they close in, they must quickly transition to a pass-rushing stance, maintaining balance and control. Coaching cues include 'Finish the play!' and 'Keep your feet moving!' This drill translates to game performance by improving a defensive end's ability to close the gap and secure a sack or tackle for loss. It also enhances their agility and reaction time, making them a more formidable opponent on the field.
