Elevate Your QB Game with the 'Read and React' Drill

๐Ÿ“ St. Edward EaglesยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For Div I quarterbacks like St. Edward's Eagles, precision and quick decision-making are crucial to success. The 'Read and React' drill is designed to sharpen these skills. Divide the quarterbacks into pairs, with one player as the reader and the other as the reactor. The reader will call out a play (e.g., 'slant and go') and the reactor will respond with a corresponding action (e.g., 'slant' or 'go'). The reader will then change their call to a different play, and the reactor must quickly adjust. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'Read the defense, not the play' and 'React, don't think.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing QBs to process information rapidly and make split-second decisions, a key component of in-game success.
