Cardinal Cornerbacks: Mastering the 'Mirror Match' Drill
At top Div I programs like Mentor Cardinals, cornerbacks are constantly looking for ways to improve their technique and stay one step ahead of receivers. One drill that's been making waves this summer is the 'Mirror Match' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the cornerback's ability to mirror the receiver's movements, staying in phase and disrupting the route. To run the drill, set up two cornerbacks facing each other, 10 yards apart. Have them start in a mirror stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart and their hands up in a 'ready' position. On the coach's signal, they'll begin to move, mirroring each other's steps and staying in sync. Perform 3 sets of 30 seconds, resting 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the cornerback's reaction time and ability to stay with receivers on the move.
