Tiger Tailbacks: Massillon's RB Drill for Power and Agility
At Massillon Tigers' summer camp, running backs are putting in work with the 'Tiger Trench' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets power, speed, and agility, essential for success in Division II football. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps: (1) 10-yard sprint through a narrow 'trench' (cones spaced 3 feet apart), (2) 10-yard lateral dash through a 'zig-zag' course (cones spaced 2 feet apart), and (3) 10-yard shuttle run through a 'box' (cones forming a 5x5 yard square). Coaching cues include 'explosive acceleration' and 'quick feet.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to change direction, break tackles, and accelerate through holes. Coaches can implement the Tiger Trench drill into their own summer camps to give their RBs a competitive edge.
