Unlocking Speed and Agility: The Jenks Trojans' DE Drill

๐Ÿ“ Jenks TrojansยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Defensive Ends at 6A-I programs like the Jenks Trojans require a unique blend of speed, agility, and strength to dominate on the field. To prepare for the upcoming season, we've developed a drill that targets these key areas. The 'Lateral Shuffle and Blast' drill is a game-changer for DEs looking to improve their game performance. Set up four cones in a square formation, with the DE starting at one corner. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, shuffling laterally between cones while maintaining a low stance. As you reach the final cone, explosively accelerate forward, driving through the ground with your back foot. Coaching cue: 'Keep your feet light and your eyes up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate off the line, making them nearly unguardable in pass rush situations.
