Rams' WRs Get Ready for Fall with Route Running Agility Drill
At 6A-I programs like Owasso Rams, wide receivers must be ready to make quick cuts and accelerate down the field. To improve their agility and route running, Rams' WR coach, John Smith, has implemented a drill that targets these key skills. The drill, called the 'L-Cut and Accelerate,' involves setting up four cones in a square formation, with one cone at each corner. Players start at the center cone and perform an L-cut to their left, then accelerate to the first cone, making a sharp cut to their right. They repeat the drill on the other side, performing an L-cut to their right and accelerating to the second cone. Coaches should emphasize proper footwork and body positioning. Aim for 3 sets of 5 reps per side, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate away from defenders.
