Pioneering Kicking Drills: Stillwater Pioneers' Trainer Shares a Proven Kicking Technique
The Stillwater Pioneers' kicking game is a key component of their 5A success. This summer, their trainers are focusing on building strong plant foot mechanics with the 'Step-Through' drill. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players start in a kicking stance, then step through with their plant foot, keeping it parallel to the target. As they step through, they focus on keeping their knee bent and weight transferring onto the plant foot. Coaches cue players to 'step through, don't just lift' and 'keep the plant foot firm.' This drill translates to game performance by improving kicking accuracy and power. By strengthening plant foot mechanics, kickers can generate more force and consistency, making them a valuable asset to their team.
