Crunch Time for TE Prospects: What Coaches Look for on Junior Day Visits
For 6A-I tight end prospects, junior day visits are a crucial opportunity to showcase their skills and make a lasting impression on coaches. When evaluating TE prospects, coaches look for a combination of physical and intangible qualities. On the field, they seek tight ends who can consistently separate from defenders, using a combination of speed, agility and route-running skills. In the weight room, coaches look for prospects who can bench press 185 pounds for 10 reps, a benchmark of strength and power. Off the field, coaches value prospects who are coachable, work well with teammates and demonstrate a strong work ethic. To stand out on a junior day visit, TE prospects should focus on showcasing their ability to separate from defenders and demonstrate their strength and power in drills and exercises. By doing so, they can make a compelling case for themselves as a top tight end prospect in the 6A-I class.
