Rams' WRs Get Ready for Fall with 'Route Runner' Drill
At Central Catholic High School, Rams' wide receivers are gearing up for the upcoming season with a high-intensity drill designed to improve their route-running skills. The 'Route Runner' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players start at the line of scrimmage, then sprint 10 yards to a designated spot, where they perform a specific route (e.g. 'go' or 'out'). Upon completion, they quickly change direction and sprint back to the line, where they repeat the process. Coaching cues include 'hands up,' 'keep your eyes on the QB,' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing WRs to develop muscle memory for quick cuts and changes of direction, ultimately making them more elusive defenders and more effective receivers.
