Route Running Drill for 6A WRs: 'Sheldon Sprinter'

๐Ÿ“ Sheldon IrishยทMonday, July 6, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 6A programs like Sheldon Irish, wide receivers need to be precise and explosive in their route running. To improve this skill, we recommend the 'Sheldon Sprinter' drill. This drill involves setting up three cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. The WR starts at the first cone, sprints to the second cone, then cuts sharply to the third cone. The player repeats this pattern for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Fast feet, not fast legs' and 'Cut on the toes, not the heels.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the WR's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts. It also helps build endurance and agility, essential for 6A competition.
