Route Running Drills for 6A WRs: Lake Oswego Lakers Prep for the Season
For the Lake Oswego Lakers' wide receivers, building precise route running skills is crucial for success in the 6A OSAA playoffs. One effective drill is the '5-10-5' route repetition. Set up five cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, sprint to the second, then quickly change direction to the third, before accelerating to the fourth and finally decelerating to the fifth. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Drive through the first turn,' 'Change direction quickly,' and 'Accelerate to the next cone.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly read the defense and get into their routes. It also enhances their agility and speed, making them more effective in the open field.
