FridayNightPulse: CB Drills for 5A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Imhotep Charter PanthersยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Cornerbacks at 5A programs like Imhotep Charter Panthers need to be ready to react quickly and make plays on the ball. One effective drill to improve their skills is the 'Lateral Shuffle and Break.' Set up cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have the CB start at the first cone, shuffling their feet laterally while keeping their eyes on the quarterback. As they reach the second cone, they must explosively break forward, planting their outside foot and extending their arms to make a play on the ball. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'shuffle, don't slide' and 'break with your outside foot.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the CB's ability to stay with receivers and make plays on the ball in tight spaces.
