Summer WR Training: Coatesville Red Raiders' Route Runner Drill
At the top level of 6A programs like Coatesville Red Raiders, wide receiver training needs to be precise and focused. One key drill for summer training is the 'Route Runner' exercise. This drill will help WRs improve their speed, agility, and route running skills. To run the drill: Set up 5-6 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Have the WR start at the first cone and run through the course, focusing on quick cuts and changes of direction. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues: 'Run through the numbers' and 'Keep your eyes on the next cone.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the WR's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts, making them a more elusive target for defenders. By incorporating this drill into their summer training, WRs can gain a competitive edge in the 6A league.
