FridayNightPulse: Quarterback Read-Option Drill for 5A Programs
In preparation for the upcoming season, Imhotep Charter Panthers quarterbacks can benefit from a read-option drill that enhances their decision-making skills. Start with a 3x3 grid on the field, with cones marking each square. Divide the quarterbacks into pairs, with one player as the quarterback and the other as the running back. The quarterback will start in the middle square, while the running back lines up in one of the adjacent squares. The quarterback will receive a snap and read the defense, then make a decision to hand off or keep the ball. The quarterback will perform 3 sets of 10 reps on each side, with a 30-second break between sets. Coaching cues include 'read the hat' and 'make a quick decision.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing quarterbacks to develop their ability to read defenses and make split-second decisions.
