Speed and Agility for S Players: The 5-10-5 Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Imhotep Charter PanthersยทSunday, July 19, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 5A programs like Imhotep Charter Panthers, speed and agility are crucial for S players to excel on the field. To improve their reaction time and quickness, we recommend incorporating the 5-10-5 shuttle drill into their summer training regimen. Here's how to run the drill: Set up five cones in a zig-zag pattern, with the first and last cone 5 yards apart. Players start at the first cone, sprint to the second cone, then change direction and sprint back to the first cone. Next, they sprint 10 yards to the third cone, change direction, and sprint back to the second cone. Finally, they sprint 5 yards to the last cone and back to the first cone. Coaches should emphasize proper footwork, explosive acceleration, and quick changes of direction. This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly close gaps and cover receivers in space.
