Hawk's Tight End Takedown: A Pre-Season Drill for 6A TE's

๐Ÿ“ St. Joseph's Prep HawksยทMonday, July 20, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the St. Joseph's Prep Hawks prepare for another 6A title run, their tight end corps is honing in on a crucial skill: the ability to take down defenders in space. This week's training tip focuses on a drill designed to improve TE's tackling prowess. The 'Tight End Takedown' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players line up 5 yards from a defender, who is instructed to run a 5-yard out route. The TE must quickly close the gap and bring the defender to the ground, emphasizing proper tackling form and technique. Coaching cues include 'Stay low, stay tight' and 'Finish with your feet.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to quickly close gaps and bring down larger defenders, a critical aspect of 6A football.
