Austin Taylor Commits to SMU
St. Joseph's Prep Hawks linebacker Austin Taylor has committed to play for Southern Methodist University. The Class of 2027 standout made the announcement after a thorough evaluation of his options. Taylor cited SMU's defensive scheme, which aligns with his strengths as a linebacker, as a key factor in his decision. He also noted the availability of playing time on the Mustangs' depth chart and the university's strong academic program. Taylor had previously considered other Power Five programs but ultimately chose SMU for its fit with his athletic abilities. He will join a team that finished with a 9-3 record in 2025. Taylor's commitment marks the first major pledge for SMU's 2027 recruiting class. He will continue to participate in summer camps and training sessions before enrolling at SMU in the fall of 2027.
