Building a Stronger O-Line: The Viking Vault Drill

๐Ÿ“ Pittsburgh Central Catholic VikingsยทThursday, July 30, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For the Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings' 5A program, a strong O-line is crucial to success. To build a more dominant unit, Coach Thompson recommends the Viking Vault Drill. This drill focuses on developing the strength and power needed to drive block opponents. To set up the drill, place a row of cones 5 yards apart, forming a 'vault' shape. OL players will start at the first cone, then explosively jump over the next cone, landing softly on both feet. They will then immediately drive block the next player, focusing on keeping their feet shoulder-width apart and hands inside. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving OL players' ability to explosively generate power and maintain balance while driving block, allowing them to dominate at the point of attack.
