Coventry Oakers Name New Coordinator
Coventry High School has elevated assistant coach James Thompson to the role of defensive coordinator, the program announced Thursday. Thompson has spent the past three seasons developing talent and contributing to the Oakers' 8-4 record in 2024 and 2025. The Coventry Oakers compete in Division II, the second-highest classification in Rhode Island Interscholastic League competition. Thompson's promotion is seen as a key move in the program's quest to build on recent success and challenge top-ranked teams in the division. With Thompson at the helm, the Oakers will focus on recruiting top defensive talent and developing a more aggressive style of play. The move is expected to have a significant impact on the team's competitiveness in the upcoming season.
