Quarterback Pocket Footwork Drill

๐Ÿ“ La Salle Academy RamsยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the 2026 high school football season approaches, La Salle Academy Rams quarterbacks are putting in extra work to refine their pocket presence. One key drill to improve their ability to read defenses and make quick decisions is the 'Step-and-Plant' pocket footwork exercise. To set up the drill, divide the quarterbacks into pairs with one player as the 'pocket' and the other as the 'defender'. The pocket player will start in a neutral position, while the defender will begin in a 3-point stance. On the coach's signal, the defender will rush the pocket player, who must step back with their non-throwing foot and plant their throwing foot into the ground. The drill will be performed for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill improves the quarterback's ability to stay calm under pressure and quickly reset their feet to deliver accurate passes.
