As the inaugural 2028 season approaches, the University of Nebraska's flag football program, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, is gaining momentum. Coventry Oakers' standout athlete, Emily Johnson, is among the local multisport female athletes considering a pivot to flag football for college opportunities. With a strong work ethic and competitive drive, Johnson has caught the attention of several NAIA programs. Ottawa University, Kansas, a national powerhouse, offers up to 12 scholarships, while Keiser University, Florida, and Midland University, Nebraska, are active recruiters. UT Arlington, a developing NCAA D1 program, is also on Johnson's radar. To capitalize on these opportunities, Johnson will attend the University of Nebraska's summer camp and create highlight tapes showcasing her skills. By taking concrete actions, Johnson positions herself for a potential flag football scholarship.
