Improving Kicking Distance with the 'Step-Up' Drill

๐Ÿ“ North Kingstown SkippersยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For kickers at Div II programs like North Kingstown Skippers, building leg strength and power is crucial for a successful season. The 'Step-Up' drill targets these areas while also improving technique and accuracy. To perform the drill, kickers will start by standing with a weight plate or small step behind them. They will then step up onto the plate with one foot, keeping the other foot on the ground. Next, they will step back down to the starting position and repeat with the other foot. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps on each leg, focusing on quick and controlled movements. As kickers get comfortable with the drill, add resistance bands or weights to increase difficulty. This drill translates to game performance by building the strength and power needed to kick the ball through the uprights from distance.
