FridayNightPulse: Power Through Contact Drill for RBs
This summer, 4A programs like Lakewood Gators can give their running backs a leg up on the competition with a simple yet effective drill: the Power Through Contact (PTC) series. Designed to build strength and technique, this drill will have your RBs ready to take on even the toughest defenders. Set up cones in a zig-zag pattern, with a defender at each point. Have your RBs start at one end, then sprint through the course, focusing on keeping their shoulders square and driving through contact. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'shoulders down, chest up' and 'drive through the defender.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to maintain their balance and generate power through contact, making them nearly unstoppable in the open field.
