Defensive End Dominance: The Stallion Stance Drill
As we approach the start of the 4A season, defensive end players at programs like South Pointe Stallions are looking to gain a competitive edge. One effective drill to improve their skills is the Stallion Stance Drill. This drill focuses on proper stance, hand placement, and quickness off the line of scrimmage. To set up the drill, have DEs line up in a 3-point stance with their feet shoulder-width apart and hands on the ground in a 'paw' position. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'stiffen your back' and 'drive your feet.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching DEs to quickly react to the snap and explode off the line, allowing them to get a jump on the opposing lineman and disrupt the play.
