Rough Rider Running Backs: Master the 'Power Through' Drill
At Roosevelt Rough Riders, our 11AA running backs are gearing up for a strong season with a focus on explosive acceleration. The 'Power Through' drill is a game-changer for RBs looking to break tackles and gain extra yards. Set up four cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Start with a 3-step drop, then burst through the first cone, planting your outside foot and driving through with your inside leg. As you approach the second cone, quickly change direction, keeping your outside foot on the ground. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Power through the first cone,' 'Change direction, don't lose speed.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to generate power and maintain speed through contact, allowing them to break tackles and gain extra yards.
